Artist: Mitsutaka Shiraishi | Album: Piano Works by Great Conductors | Released: 2002 | Label: King Records | Catalog #: KKCC 3003 | Genre: Classical, Piano

Most people in this album had stopped composition, after they achieved great success as conductors. However, all stayed splendid and telling music, allowedly they studied to be composers. Moreover, since they produced in their youth, the music revealed the fresh and naive feelings. Their earnest messages revived beyond the time. The only piano music by Toscanini "Berceuse" is full of nostalgies and far from the style of his conducting. Stravinsky-like "1er Marche Militaire" by Ansermet. "Tarantelle" by Knappertsbusch is heavy and slow music, far from what is imagined from the title. "Drei Klavierstucke" by Szell has an influence of French impressionism and is also pianism of Leopold Godowsky. Furtwangler in which the strong influence of Beethoven can be felt. "Sonate" by Schuricht is a grand work, even its Op.1, having little ambiguities at all. Pieces by Mravinsky are the old american pops style which differs greatly from his image as a conductor. All works attract music fans.
